The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has announced resurfacing portions of Highway 331 south of Interstate 10 (I-10) in DeFuniak Springs.

This project is part of a broader initiative to improve road conditions, enhance safety, and support the growing transportation needs of the area.

The resurfacing project will cover several miles of Highway 331, focusing on areas that have experienced significant wear and tear. This includes both northbound and southbound lanes, ensuring a comprehensive improvement to the road surface. The $10.6 million project will stretch from south of Interstate 10 up to the intersection of Highway 90.

During this period, motorists can expect some lane closures and potential delays, but FDOT aims to minimize disruptions as much as possible.

Construction will ensue between 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays. The project is scheduled to be completed by late 2025.

In addition to resurfacing, the project will include the installation of new signage, updated guardrails, and improved lighting. These enhancements are designed to increase safety for all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists.

Safety enhancements will include new traffic signals on U.S. 331 at I-10,
Signalization upgrades at the Winn Dixie shopping center driveway and U.S. 90 intersections, and Intersection and turn lane improvements at U.S. 90, Business Drive, and the I-10 ramps.

The resurfacing of Highway 331 is expected to have a positive economic impact by improving the efficiency of transportation for goods and services. It will also enhance the overall driving experience for residents and visitors, supporting the local tourism industry.

FDOT is committed to minimizing the environmental impact of the resurfacing project. Measures will be taken to manage runoff and protect nearby natural habitats during construction.
