Freeport: Anchored in Art
Freeport Launches Public Art Project to Celebrate Its Port City Roots
A new wave of creativity is coming to Freeport, anchored in both history and imagination. The Anchored in Freeport Art in Public Spaces Project is a collaborative initiative between the City of Freeport and the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County (CAA). Rooted in the city’s legacy as a historic port town, the project will feature a series of 4.5-foot concrete anchors, each uniquely transformed by local artists and displayed throughout the city.
This creative placemaking effort is designed to do more than beautify Freeport—it aims to strengthen community identity, honor the city’s maritime heritage, and establish new cultural landmarks that draw both residents and visitors into the heart of a growing city.
Eight local artists have been selected to bring their vision to life:
Estelle Grengs (EC Title Services) TBD
Juan Adaro (Walton County Tourism)
Andy Saczynski (Jay Odom Group)
Kendall Boggs (Christ the King Church)
Katherine Boggs (DR Horton)
Wes Hinds (Nelkin Real Estate)
Gisselle Barnhart (City of Freeport)
Sarah Page (Eglin Federal Credit Union)
The first four anchors have been cast by Bill at Castaways and will soon be in the hands of the artists. Painting will take place throughout July at Estelle Grengs’ gallery in Freeport. Once finished, these anchors will be displayed at the Freeport Marina while the next set of anchors undergoes their transformation.
In August, the Freeport Marina will host a community event offering a sneak peek at the finished pieces and an opportunity to support the project’s installation through fundraising efforts. Details for the event will be announced soon.
More than an art installation, Anchored in Freeport is a statement: that Freeport’s history, culture, and creative energy are intertwined—and worth celebrating.
