At their January 27 meeting, the Walton County Board of Commissioners addressed a range of projects affecting residents, public spaces, and local infrastructure.

Eastern Lake was a major topic. More than 60 residents and stakeholders attended a public workshop to oppose new amenities, including restrooms and dune walkovers. Commissioners voted to table the project, keeping the lake area undeveloped for the time being.

The Walton County Agriculture Center and Farmer’s Market also moved forward. The Farm Bureau pledged a $40,000 in-kind donation to support planning, and the Board approved advertising for outside bids under a public/private partnership statute. The center is intended to support local agriculture and community events.

Public safety and access were discussed. The Rotary Club of South Walton is coordinating installation of rescue tubes at neighborhood beach accesses, funded in part by a St. Joe Foundation grant. Morrison Springs Park will open for the 2026 season with a $4 vehicle admission to support maintenance and operations.
Beach refurbishment remains on the agenda. Commissioners are coordinating with federal agencies on projects to maintain and protect Walton County’s coastline.

Other items included discussions on “monster homes” and land development codes, ongoing road and infrastructure improvements, and expanding internet access in rural areas.

The meeting reflected a mix of community input, planning initiatives, and infrastructure priorities shaping Walton County in 2026.
