DeFuniak Springs Woman’s Club hosts fashion show

By Wendy O. Dixon

Everyone loves a fashion bargain. This Thursday, June 6, enjoy a fashion show featuring the members of the DeFuniak Springs Woman’s Club. And plan your shopping weekend this Friday and Saturday to purchase the clothing, shoes, handbags and other accessories featured in the show.

The club’s objective is the enrichment of the lives of women and children, and making the community a better place to live. In its early years, the woman’s club provided care for new mothers and babies, offered free health and dental clinics to school children and provided clothing and hot lunches to school children. They helped purchase fire trucks and books for the library. Today, the club helps local schools by contributing to their art or music programs. It helps the Boys and Girls Club programs when needed. The Christmas parade, Trick or Treating Around the Lake, and supporting Resources for Human Development are among their ongoing sponsorships.

Chris Guzowski, who served as president and treasurer in years past, is the historian of the group. “This is my favorite job of the three,” she says, adding that the funds raised from the fashion show will go toward improving the 100-year-old club building. “As you can imagine, there’s always something that needs to be done. We need a split unit air conditioner and heater for the kitchen area. Basically, we need to keep the old building standing.”

The Second Annual Fashion Show “Fashions for Every Season” will be this Thursday at Café NOLA in Downtown DeFuniak Springs at 5 p.m. Tickets are $25. Club members will be wearing complete outfits from their boutique shop, Fashion to Share. Shop at the boutique the following Friday and Saturday, where the nearly 30 gently used outfits will be available for purchase at bargain prices.

The boutique is open Fridays, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., and Saturdays, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. “We get some amazing donations,” Chris says. “Everything from jeans to wedding dresses, shoes, purses and accessories. When we first started this in 2014, our goal was to help woman trying to get back into the workforce. But we figured out that all women, from all walks of life, like a bargain. And it’s fun!”

To purchase tickets, email or call Café NOLA at chefernie@cafenola.net or (850) 610-8800.
