The Noble Hearts Academy Aims to Reclaim Civility One Home at a Time

Our ability to be civil, listen actively and connect with each other on a deeper level is something we are likely all willing to admit is lacking.

Take action and come to the Noble Hearts Academy held June 17 through June 21 in DeFuniak Springs at the First Methodist Church on Circle Drive.

The Academy makes its debut in the small town of Walton County by no accident. Diane Pickett, longtime “not lifetime” local (and known trailbalzer) helped set the academy in motion.

The recent collaboration between The UWF Historic Trust and DeFuniak Landmarks has marked the historic town of DeFuniak Springs as the location for a complimentary academy, inviting all ages to participate, over five days.

Participants will be led through themed programming meant to inspire, entertain and educate.

In collaboration with the esteemed Kugelman Honors Program at the University of West Florida (UWF) the programming each day is from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Attendees can expect instructions on active listening, how to have meaningful time together, the difference between personality and good character, the emotional impact of too much screen time, and cross-cultural practices that convey respect and civility.

“This is not a political or religious event. It’s an outreach right here in our community, free and open to the public,” says Diane Pickett, founder of DeFuniak Landmarks and committed trailblazer of cultural experiences in the historic town.

Would be participants do not have to attend all five nights, but it is encouraged for full benefit of the program. You can register for the Noble Hearts Academy online. Registration is not required. A complimentary “snack supper” will be served nightly.
