Noble Hearts Academy Debuts in DeFuniak Springs

Image of all ages engaged with each other

Have you ever felt something ain’t right?

Maybe you accidentally cut in line at the pharmacy and, suddenly, hateful words were spewed at you with such disdain you either reacted in a similar manner or you may have scuttled away to maintain dignity.

Or maybe a sassy response from a haughty server left you in dismay when all you were trying to convey is that you just really DON’T LIKE MAYO.

Or maybe you have noticed you’re hardly listening to your co-workers, spouse or children anymore because you’ve busied yourself with mind-numbing social media scrolling.

Our ability to be civil, listen actively and connect with each other on a deeper level is something we are likely all willing to admit is lacking.

In collaboration with the esteemed Kugelman Honors Program at the University of West Florida (UWF) and Defuniak Landmarks, The Noble Hearts Academy aims to reclaim civility one home at a time. The recent collaboration between The UWF Historic Trust and DeFuniak Landmarks has marked the historic town of DeFuniak Springs as the location for a complimentary academy, inviting all ages to participate, over five days from June 17th through the 21st at the First Methodist Church on Circle Drive.

Each day, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. participants will be led through themed programming meant to inspire, entertain and educate. Attendees can expect instructions on active listening, how to have meaningful time together, the difference between personality and good character, the emotional impact of too much screen time, and cross-cultural practices that convey respect and civility.

“It’s an honor to work with faculty and staff of The University of West Florida to bring this educational event to DeFuniak Springs. It is important to us that everyone feels invited, all ages. This is not a political or religious event. It’s an outreach right here in our community, free and open to the public,” says Diane Pickett, founder of DeFuniak Landmarks and committed trailblazer of cultural experiences in the historic town.

You can register for the Noble Hearts Academy online. Registration is required, as space is limited. A complimentary “snack supper” will be served nightly.
