A Win for Design—and Community Pride: Scenic Walton Celebrates Visionary Restoration on Baldwin Avenue

In the heart of DeFuniak Springs, a thoughtful restoration has been recognized in a meaningful way. Scenic Walton has presented its Design Excellence Award to Reynolds Henderson for his work on the historic CCB Bank Building—a project that highlights the value of honoring the past while investing in the future of the community.

Scenic Walton, a nonprofit committed to enhancing the beauty and resiliency of Walton County, recently honored Henderson with itsDesign Excellence Award for his restoration of the historicCCB Bank Building on Baldwin Avenue. But this award isn’t just about bricks and mortar. It’s about honoring the people who are making a visible difference in the places we call home.

For Scenic Walton, these awards do more than celebrate great design—they uplift the community as a whole. They remind us what’s possible when vision meets dedication, and they encourage all of us to take pride in our towns, our roads, and our shared spaces.

Henderson’s project—carried out in partnership with local builder Paul Rushing and a team of talented architects—breathed new life into a long-neglected corner building in the heart of DeFuniak Springs’ Main Street district. With careful attention to detail, including the addition of extraordinary custom awnings that now define its striking façade, the restoration honors the building’s historic roots while reestablishing its place as a standout along Baldwin Avenue. The building is also home to a vivid mural by artistNathan Brown, whose geometric artwork now breathes new life into the building exterior walls.

“The CCB Bank Building is a stunning example of what happens when smart design meets a deep appreciation for history,” says Leigh Moore, Executive Director of Scenic Walton. “Reynolds Henderson’s commitment to creating a space that honors the past while serving the future is exactly the kind of vision we celebrate.”

And true to form, Henderson’s response to the recognition wasn’t about himself—it was about the people of DeFuniak Springs. “I think all of our names should be on this award,” he said. “Because the people supporting each other in this town are the ones who deserve it the most.”

At its core, Scenic Walton is about making Walton County safer and more beautiful for everyone — and this award is one way they shine a light on projects that move that mission forward.
