This June, SOWAL House in Rosemary Beach is turning up the volume on creative growth with the launch of its first Summer Jazz Workshop, a three-day immersive experience for young musicians led by local jazz artist Luke Pinegar.

Held June 27–29 from 1–4PM daily, the workshop brings together advanced college musicians and students in 7th grade and up to explore jazz as a living language—passed down through mentorship, improvisation, and deep listening.

“At SOWAL House, we believe in giving established artists a place to grow—and in nurturing the next generation of talent right here on the Gulf Coast,” said founder Dave King. “This workshop is all about creating space for connection, creativity, and community through music.”

Participants will dive into improvisation, music theory, and the legacy of jazz legends—while discovering their own unique voice in the process.

In this dynamic workshop, participants will:

Discover how jazz is transmitted through history and personal connection.

Learn the fundamentals of improvisation and the theory that supports it.

Study classic jazz artists and uncover how they developed their unique voices.

Understand that every musician has their own path to fluency in the jazz language.

Participate in a collaborative environment where students learn by both teaching and learning.

Through hands-on activities, discussions, and real-time playing, students will gain tools to find their own voice in jazz — and the inspiration to carry the tradition forward.
