TRT 106 Certification Means Local Heroes Are Ready for the State’s Toughest Rescues

Walton County Fire Rescue has officially earned its stripes as a Florida State Technical Rescue Team—TRT 106—and it’s a game-changer for the community. This certification means the team has met the state’s toughest standards for training, equipment, and operational readiness, making them ready to tackle some of the most complex rescues in Florida, from confined spaces and structural collapses to high-angle and trench operations.

Fire Chief Austin Pugh says the recognition is a true reflection of the team’s dedication and professionalism. He points out that the community counts on them during the toughest moments, and now the new designation gives the crew even more capability to help when it matters most. Becoming certified isn’t easy—it takes extensive training, specialized gear, and a proven ability to handle high-stakes situations safely—but Walton County’s firefighters have shown they’re up to the task.
