Family Fishing on Twin Lakes in DeFuniak Springs

A Day at Twin Lakes Camp Resort

By Kerri Parker

There’s something about the way sunlight drapes itself across the still waters of Twin Lakes Camp Resort—a kind of quiet invitation to slow down, breathe deep, and remember what it means to belong outdoors. On Saturday, November 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., everyone is invited to gather at this lakeside gem for a day that captures everything good about small-town generosity and Southern tradition.

It’s called Tackle & Treasure Day, but the meaning runs deeper than that. Beneath the easy laughter of families, the sizzle of catfish in cast-iron skillets, and the ripple of a kayak gliding through clear water lies a mission: to make the outdoors open to everyone.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Whole Outdoors, a remarkable organization devoted to creating accessible adventures for individuals with mobility challenges. The group’s spirit aligns perfectly with Twin Lakes’ own—where the resort’s owners and staff have recently completed a renovation of their ADA Cabin Suite, ensuring that every guest, regardless of ability, can find rest and renewal by the lake.

Throughout the day, the resort will come alive with the kind of neighborly energy you can’t fake. There’ll be a fish fry—plates heaping with golden-fried fish, sides, and a drink, all available for a donation-based price. Nearby, a yard sale will offer treasures from light fixtures to home décor, while kids cast lines under the guidance of local anglers, learning patience, pride, and the simple thrill of a tug on the line.

And when the live auction begins, the sound of friendly bidding will mingle with birdsong and the scent of pine in the air. Guests are encouraged to bring their own fishing poles or take a kayak out on the lake, drifting between the twin reflections that gave this place its name.

For Twin Lakes, this isn’t just an event—it’s an embodiment of their philosophy: that the best kind of recreation reconnects us not only with nature, but with one another. No RSVP is needed, but folks are encouraged to share how many will be coming, because—like any good fish fry—the more the merrier.
So mark your calendar, pack your rod, and come hungry for more than just catfish.
